Smile Starters - Asheville

I know there are alot of mixed reviews here, but we loved it. Our 2 year old was treated very well. We were able to stay with her and the staff were very friendly and made us all feel welcome and comfortable. No problems and no issues. Quick wait and quick treatment. We enjoyed our experience. And we are grateful for everyone that was involved.

I took both of my children in this morning. It was quick and efficient. Everyone there is so knowledgeable and so incredibly friendly. My kids love going to the dentist there! And they always receive the best care possible. So thankful to have found such a wonderful dentist for our kids!

I’m grateful that this place exists because It is the only place in the region that will take Medicaid. And I know that puts a pretty big burden on them because they don’t get as much money from Medicaid, but then they have this huge influx of low income people that they have to schedule. So a pretty big burden of patient load, with less money to help deal with it. And if it wasn’t for them, there would be lots of people who couldn’t afford dental care so thank you very much for that. That being said, temper your expectations. If you don’t wanna read my whole post, Just think of this place as the DMV of dentists.. You will get professional opinions And professional treatment and that’s great. But otherwise the whole place is very low vibes, You generally have to wait a very long time in a very noisy, waiting room, Everything is very late, and everyone is in a hurry. Also, We had a pretty bad experience where one of the hygienist saw on my daughter’s medical record that she had a blood problem eight months ago (ITP) And decided on her own that the dentist was not going to see her. We explained that we have been to this dentist already once since she had that blood problem and There was no indication that this was gonna be a problem. Furthermore, my daughter’s issue was completely resolved. We went through four hygienist who refused to let us even see the doctor. They said he was “not available”. We had to insist and let them know that we weren’t leaving. That the doctor was indeed available because we had an appointment with him, (obviously). When the doctor finally showed up, he was very reasonable and did an evaluation on my daughter as scheduled, but it took an uncertain hour of refusing to leave multiple times. Trying to explain to hygienist a medical situation that was way over the head. It was definitely one of those infuriating moments where we were craving some sanity. So that little anecdote is the kind of thing that will happen here. It’s a really big office with lots of people, low quality control, lots of stress because they have to deal with a large and difficult population and don’t have The ability to pay as much and our understaffed. Also, I keep reading on here that they don’t Allow parents to be in the room with their children after the age of four. I haven’t confirmed that yet, but if it’s true, there’s no way We’re going to go there When our daughter is four. I might consider it if the place had good vibes and looked like it had good training and knew how to be with children in a medical setting, but it is clearly not the case. It’s a stressed out low income environment. Definitely not a place that I wanna just send my four-year-old back into a windowless room with a bunch of potentially incompetent strangers. At that point I’ll have to find the money to send her to a private dentist I guess. And take darn good care of her teeth so she doesn’t get any cavities.

Will not come back my daughter 4 years old do not feel comfortable going to a dentist our first appointment to this office they do not allow parents in the back only children first of all I don’t feel comfortable sending my daughter into a room with a doctor I don’t know I can’t see what’s going on what being said no I do not agree with this. If you feel comfortable sending your child into there hands without being able to see what’s going on be my guest to come here if not don’t even bother calling!!! They had my son and daughter uncomfortable and crying!!!! My son was in the chair (I had to look thur a small window) he kept looking back at me I can’t even count how many times he looked back to make sure I was there made me so madddd I waved my hand for him to come to me he got up to come and the doctor told him no he can’t come to me! That’s it I told myself who Is this lady to tell me son not to listen to me and he told her my mom called me n she still insisted to tell my son no! I went to go grab him real quick and a nurse came quick before I open the back door to asked what’s wrong n I told her I told my son to come here n the doctor told him no so she got my son n I walked right out i will not be having any of my kids here this place should closed down!! No dentist any doctors office should never EVERRRR have a child aloneeee without there parent guardian supervision vision!!! Kind of nonsense is this!! Crazyy!! I can’t see what you’re doing it’s a problem I can’t hear what’s being said that’s a problem!!! I take care of my kids I’m raising my kids they will not be left alone in a doctor office without me being present to make sure they are being treated right and protected!!!!!! IF I CAN GIVE LESS THAN 1 STARRR I WOULD!!!!

Today was the second time I took my daughter to Smile Starters - now, this is not her normal dentist..we are going here at the moment due to a lag in our insurance. I was a little skeptical at first since my daughter loves her other dentist so much....but, honestly the entire staff are so friendly! Everyone was very kind, understanding, patient, and so great with kids. I am very thankful for the care my daughter has received here at Smile Starters! They helped ease my mind as well and we're all very accommodating.
