Contemporary Dentistry - East Lansing

From the second I walked in the door to the second I left, I was treated with the utmost kindness from everyone! Shawna, my hygienist, was amazing - very kind and personable. She was incredibly thorough and communicative with all of her processes. The dentist was very very warm towards me and my hygienist as well (which is always a great sign). The woman at the front desk is always sweet, along with the woman at the end who checked me out. Hospitality meeting dentistry… love it!

I seldom give reviews on Google Maps, but this time I'm really annoyed. I will never visit this dental clinic again. I feel like I was scammed. I originally went in to get just one tooth filled. However, the nurse told me that four teeth needed fillings and assured me that most of the cost would be covered by my insurance. I was actually happy to hear that. But after the procedure, I ended up paying much more than I was originally told. On top of that, they told me I had another seven teeth on the other side that also needed fillings – something that was never mentioned during my first visit. Because I had already gotten so many fillings, my insurance refused to cover the subsequent treatments. I decided to stop going to this clinic. I consulted a friend who is a dentist, and he told me that most of my teeth did not actually need fillings. Several months later, I received an additional bill asking me to pay even more money. No one ever explained any of this to me. This is absolutely RIDICULOUS – it feels like nothing but a money grab. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff were friendly. But I deeply resent this kind of superficial kindness that hides overtreatment and unnecessary procedures. I have no idea if other dental clinics do the same, but this experience has left me feeling completely deceived.

Because my long-time dentist didn’t take my new insurance, I had to look for a new dentist. I was sort of dreading it because I liked my ex dentist and loved my hygienist. But I was blown away by my new hygienist. She was so knowledgeable (as well as kind). Alexis explained my X-rays in more detail than I had previously experienced, and she immediately started treating issues with my gums that I had barely been aware of. My dentist was great, too! Very happy with my luck in getting in with my new team.

**UPDATE** They aren't returning phone messages or emails... They must know they are in the wrong. It's wild there can be such a huge discrepancy between their estimated billing (with premium insurance) and the work they do. With all the other reviews this seems to be their MO... And they keep getting called out for it in their reviews. I was recommended this place by a friend. I have no issues with the Dentist or Hygienist. But boy as I'm learning from these recent comments that they DO NOT understand or know how insurance works. I have a print out of how my procedures would cost $0... Then at my last appointment I somehow OWE almost $200... That's a huge discrepancy from being told you don't owe anything, even with a printed out quote saying my patient responsibility was ZERO DOLLARS. I've emailed and called to meet with the office manager and haven't heard back. They literally gave me a false billing statement then all of a sudden I'm supposed to pay all of this money with ZERO COMMUNICATION. I was also overcharged on a flouride treatment that I was upsold, but after looking at my insurance policy it says it's fully covered... How does this place keep getting away with screwing people over?

Very friendly staff. Iv loved every experience so far. So bubbly, when you call they say “how can we brighten your smile today?” It’s cheesy, but I love it so much! Great atmosphere
