Tallahassee Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery: Ricardo Ortiz MD, DMD

There are quite a few comments saying Dr. Ortiz was nice or great, but that was not our experience. He was not mean, but zero bedside manner. He was very curt and only said the bare minimum, seemed rushed and brushed off my mother’s questions about her condition without addressing them or really listening to her. No eye contact and very dismissive. No greeting like hey how ya doing, no pleases or thank yous in the conversation, just all business. Maybe he is good for a lot of people, but when undergoing a procedure, we just prefer a more personable doctor. If you are wanting a doctor who makes you feel like they care, communicates well, reassures you, or really listens to your concerns, this guy isn’t it. The nurses and office staff are VERY friendly, however. They deserve 5 stars. Offices, lobby, and rooms are very nice, clean, and updated. Maybe we caught him on an off day both times we visited the office, who knows.

I cannot recommend Dr. Ortiz and the entire team at Tallahassee Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery highly enough! As someone approaching 40, I was mentally prepared for a brutal recovery after having all four of my wisdom teeth extracted. Instead, I was completely blown away by how easy the entire process was. The facility is spotless, and the staff is incredibly organized—they even had my post-procedure prescriptions ready to go for me right away. Before the surgery, they put on my favorite music to help me relax, which was such a thoughtful, comforting touch. I opted for the IV sedation and don't remember a single thing about the procedure itself. I also chose to do the PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) therapy, and it was worth every single penny. I was shocked to experience zero actual pain—just some minor tenderness and mild swelling. I felt great the same day and the days following. That level of recovery is a direct testament to the immense skill of Dr. Ortiz, his team, and the benefits of the PRF therapy. If they offer it to you, definitely get it! 5/5 stars all the way.

My husband had surgery with Dr. Ortiz yesterday. The staff are extremely on point, friendly and helpful. The surgery went very well and his first 24 hours of recovery have gone very well, looks like he'll be healing very well. Just had a call from the staff to check in (on Saturday, July 4th!!) and answer any questions. I'm so pleased and impressed with this whole experience. 10/10. Oh, and when I was searching for a Dr to work with us Dr. Ortiz's office is the only one that had availability and took out insurance- feeling blessed that it worked out this way.

Everyone was extremely helpful and polite. I have been self conscious about my smile/teeth, they never once made me feel judged. We joked around and when it was time to remove my tooth, well I don’t remember that. One minute I was talking to Dr. Ortiz and the next I was being woke up. I was walked out to my car with my husband waiting and was told to call if ANYTHING happens. Dr. Ortiz gives his cell phone out encase of an emergency, my surgery was on a Friday. They called and checked on me and made sure I had everything needed and reminded me about proper care while healing. I had no problems and would recommend Dr. Ortiz to anyone!

Edited original post: We had a wonderful experience with Dr Ortiz and staff when our son had his wisdom teeth removed. However, fast forward to 2025-2026, the time came for our daughter to have hers removed … under the same insurance of CHP(ameritas), we were told we needed to make a payment ( deposit of $200-300) just for the consultation!!! The staff stated that we would possibly be refunded the difference after 4-6 weeks( Depending on insurance )! I was throughly disappointed in this new insurance process at Dr. Ortiz’s office. (CHP (dental) members need to be aware of the upfront charges). Otherwise, a wonderful Dr., Staff and facility! 3/31/26 I received a personal call from Dr. Ortiz and while my initial experience this year wasn’t the best, Im extremely happy that he was just as concerned and wanted to discuss further to find a resolution! My review started as a 1-star, but Dr. Ortiz’s sincerity made me change to 5-Star!! I still stand on patients need to be aware of any and all upfront charges.
