A special thank you to Jasmine, who was absolutely amazing. She was kind, thorough, and took the time to explain everything clearly while making sure I was comfortable throughout my appointment. It's obvious she genuinely cares about her patients and takes pride in providing excellent care. If you're looking for a dental office with a welcoming atmosphere and exceptional service, I highly recommend University Place Modern Dentistry. I'll definitely be returning for my future dental care!

I had many reasons to love this place but ultimately, the sole issue I went in for was never treated, and I'm now needing to find a new dentist. I went in due to soreness, swollenness and tenderness around a dental implant, bleeding and deeply receding gums in the area and general pain in the area (too painful to chew on that side). I also was due for a cleaning, but I was there because of the pain. When asked why I was there, that is what I said. When I asked if I was experiencing pain, I talked about that. Dr. Choi was looking around my mouth anyway, said, "We have a periodontist here," and that was the extent of him talking about it. He then diagnosed a variety of other issues, much more pressing, so I agreed to treat those issues first. After that had been done, I called to schedule with the periodontist. The person who answered the phone said that you can't just call and schedule with her -- the dentist has to refer you to her; you have to have a reason. And there was nothing to indicate that was the case for me. I was pretty astonished that the entire reason I had come into the dnetist wasn't documented anywhere. The dentist had seemed weirdly flippant about it, but I put trust in medical professionals, and I should not have. The issues that were causing my pain had barely been a blip on the dentist's radar. He looked right past what I was experiencing; it was irrelevant. The person on the phone said she would have someone call me back, but nobody called me back. I wrote an email to share my experience -- I did not receive a reply. But I did receive an email cancellation of my next appointment. It said I can call to reschedule. No thank you. I have since seen an oral surgeon and another dentist, and both had recommendations for me, had plans to fix things. The receding gums were obviously impacting my teeth, and there were a few recommendations from the dentist there. Both gave me a funny look when I shared that the first dentist I saw about this barely acknowledged it. I do not trust that this place 1) takes into account patient experience 2) documents visits well and 3) can communicate effectively around concerns.

Update: I have moved my dental needs and business elsewhere after an "error" dental claim which processed and paid a contracted rate for $872 of x-rays which were not done. As a patient, had I not noticed this and called my insurance and the office to inquire about this billing error a fraudulent claim would have been unchecked/uncorrected. When I asked how this "error" happened it was explained that there was an automated process that accidentally didn't get reviewed and corrected by the clinicians at the time of services and at time of submitting the claim. I first noticed this issue on the after visit summary on MyChart and immediately after the visit I sent a MyChart message to inquire/notify them. I didn't hear back a month later so then I checked my insurance explanation of benefits which listed each xray on the claim as paid. In all it took 3 separate inquiries for me to get someone to look at this issue. I wonder how often THAT happens and how often a diligent patient like me bothers to take their time to seek corrections of billing errors that appear to be fraudulent? Oops?? Prior review: Great dentistry! Gentle, low pressure, fair and transparent pricing. Professional advice and service with state of the art equipment. Comfortable treatment methods. Great with kids and adults and they use MyChart which is a total bonus!

Update: I spoke with a women who explained to me that this was not my bill and just what they have to bill to insurance. I havent received a bill and they say i dont owe anything. So for this i up my stars. Original post: Wish I could give 0 stars. I went here after getting new dental insurance and just wanted my free annual exam. Less than 2 weeks later I get my EOB saying I owe over $800. For what?? Well apparently they did a cone beam scan that is only needed when getting a procedure done. For a place called modern dentistry when I was walked back for xrays and they use the fancy scan machine I thought it was routine. But then they continued to also do every other type of xray. When I got sat in the chair they hand me a cup and say swish and spit. Boom thats over $100 for a diagnostic test that they made seem routine. Not one time during my visit was I told things were optional or extra. For an annual exam, owing over $800 is absurd! YES they can get you in fast but its not worth it. Id rather wait months to be seen. For a place who deals with people's insurance they knew what was and wasnt covered. Its completely disgusting to bring someone in under false pretenses and charge them almost 1,000 for nothing.
