I have been going to this practice for over 30 years and have experience with 3 different practice owners. Modern Dental of Durham is by far the one that stands out in terms of skill, support and friendliness. First of all, Amy is the only person in over 30 years that cleans my teeth and actually pays attention to my sensitivity and pain threshold. She explains every step of the way what she is about to do, what it will feel like and checks in frequently, making adjustments as needed. She is the most nonjudgmental person which is ideal for this job. Yaz is also amazing - so chill, friendly and responsive. It is such a treat to always have a friendly face or voice at the practice ready to help in any way needed. She knows her job and it shows. And of course, Dr. Shepard embodies all of the good qualities and competencies that he instills in his team. It is no wonder that Modern Dental stands out. Highly, highly recommend, especially if you have sensitivities and/or a low pain threshold. They will take care of you!

Had another great experience at Modern Dental of Durham. Dr. Shepherd and his team are always friendly, upbeat, and knowledgeable. Yaz is always so friendly and a wealth of info on insurance stuff. Amy always gives me great tips to improve my dental health and Dr. Shepherd continues to provide excellent care and guidance to improve my dental health. And, I love their music playlists! 😊

Not only is the routine work at Modern Dental excellent thanks to the staff, their kind treatment of patients, and their knowledge, but they make also make anything else easy. I had (another) crown done at the end of the year. Yaz was well informed and was clear about giving me timing/insurance information to help me make scheduling decisions. Each step of the actual process was explained, all my questions were answered, and I was always given a chance to rest or stop along the way if I needed it. Dr Shepherd and Brenda (who assisted him for me during this treatment) did a great job making sure that I was comfortable while I was in the chair and that I would be back to normal as quickly as possible. If you want a dental practice that has friendly and knowledgeable staff (who know your name), an honest and skilled DMD, and top quality service, this is the place to go.

I called the office after finding it on Google. I was able to be added on to the provider’s schedule for the same day. From my initial phone call to checking in everything was top notch. Everyone was so welcoming & friendly. Dr. Shepard was able to help me with great service. I highly recommend this dentist office. 10/10!!!
