uSmile Orthodontics - Valley Wide

While I have had fantastic experiences with my dentist, I cannot say the same for the Usmile male orthodontic physicians I have encountered. On two instances now, with two separate male clinicians, I have been touched multiple times when their involvement required no physical touch for the purpose of the appointment. Both times, the only orthodontic service they provided was looking at my mouth following the technician’s care. In both instances, they did not even touch my mouth. However, in these brief encounters with the male clinicians, I have had multiple places on my body touched, including the exposed skin of my ankle, my hands, my shoulders, and my thighs, all of which were unrelated and unecessary to the point of the visit. I have never been touched so much and so unnecessarily at any of my other medical providers. The lack of awareness of privilege and power as a male presenting physician is clear, incredibly disappointing, and concerning. Irrespective of a person’s personal history with unwanted touch and necessity of touch in a medical appointment, clear explanations and requests for consent should be used in every encounter (e.g., “I am going to place my hand here now so that I can…,” “Is is alright for me to touch you here so that I may…”). Despite what may be thought as a male provider, such touch is not comforting. It is not cute. It is not consensual. The technicians at my location have always been wonderful, thoughtful, and highly respectful of boundaries, even with the heightened requirement for touch in their roles. I would highly encourage the male physicians within Usmile to take additional courses and learning opportunities in the domains of consensual patient care. UPDATE: I was asked to remove this post alongside an offer for a teeth-whitening and “pampering.”

I cannot speak highly enough about the exceptional care and service provided by Dr. Ellis and her team, Rosario and Jose. The positive and friendly atmosphere in the office helped to alleviate any anxiety I had about the treatment process. Dr. Ellis's dedication to precision and attention to detail are evident in the successful results I have achieved so far. I highly recommend uSmile Orthodontics to anyone in need of orthodontic treatment. Dr. Ellis and her team, Rosario and Jose, are not only highly qualified but also fun and compassionate individuals who genuinely care about the well-being of their patients. They maintained a friendly and supportive approach, making each visit pleasant and enjoyable. As enjoyable as wearing rubber bands can be! 😆
